NEW YORK — Victoria Duval, a 17-year-old from Atlanta whose father had to be dug out from the rubble of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, upset 2011 U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur on Tuesday at the U.S. Open.

On her fourth match point Duval crushed a forehand winner and let out a little squeak as if she were the mouse who just found the cheese, while Stosur, who had beaten Serena Williams in the finals here for her only major tournament championship, hung her head.
With the crowd noisily on her side, Duval never became tentative, even during periods when her groundstrokes would spray as if shot out of a sprinkler. Afterward she said, "This is the biggest win of my career."
